Supplement to the Italian Dictionary

by Bruno Munari

"In this book, the author examines the various ways of expressing oneself without speaking, not only with the hands, but with facial expressions and the entire person's posture. [...] With the passing of time and the spread of Neapolitans, many of these ancient gestures have become commonplace, and some are even understood in many parts of the world. Lately, some gestures from other peoples of the world, such as the famous American OK, have become commonplace, so we thought it appropriate to collect as many of them as possible, leaving aside the obscene and vulgar gestures, to have the most accurate documentation possible, for the use of foreigners visiting Italy or as a supplement to the Italian dictionary."
